NEW Belly Basics Classes! Egyptian & American style Oriental Dance New Session Begins March 11, 2009!
About the new Belly Basics: Classes run for 8 week sessions. Each class is divided into three sections: reviews/drills, new material, and dance! Old material will be drilled with the goal of memory retention and technique improvement. Each week, Misha will introduce 3 to 4 new movements after first reviewing the previous class’s material. The final portion of class will help transform students into true dancers as they put their learning into practice! Through the use of a kata, a series of planned moves, students will learn how to integrate the moves learned in class into a mini-dance. Each kata, unique to the suite of movements, will not only assist students in learning technique and dance flow but will also stress either strength, timing, or speed. At the end of the class, upon completion of the kata, students will receive a certificate. All classes include handouts, too!
Belly Basics Sapphire The Sapphire Suite of movements is based on flowing from one movement to the next seamlessly. As with all four of the Belly Basics classes, this session features a specific theme and end goal at course completion. Sapphire dancers learn how to vary the speeds of basic foundational movements, allowing them to create connective, graceful dances while maintaining good technique. Students who complete Belly Basics Sapphire gain skill with movements that can be executed at a variety of speeds such as bumps, twists, and circles.

Belly Basics Emerald The Emerald Suite of movements is based on slow, slinky, serpentine movements. Emerald dancers learn to slow down basic foundational movements, timing their dance to an unhurried pace while creating core strength and muscular memory. Students who complete Belly Basics Emerald gain skill with slow, sensuous movements such as figure eights, snake arms, and undulations.

Belly Basics Ruby The Ruby Suite of movements is based on fast, furious, and sharp movements. Ruby dancers learn to speed up basic foundational movements, adding sharp locks and pops to their dance vocabulary. Students who complete Belly Basics Ruby gain skill with percussive movements such as piston hips, shimmies, tucks, lifts, and drops.
